Kjeringi Open

English version

Kjeringi Open is a “mountain to fjord cross” with a total of four stages. Telemark/randonee, cross country skiing, running and mountain biking. You start on Mount Kjeringi 1314 meters above the fjord, and finish at Hanehaug quay down by the fjord.

Our signature is «From mountain to the fjords»

Kjeringi Open have always been an event for everybody, and our goal is that everyone can participate.

The rules are that you can take all four stages yourself and become a “superkjering”, or you can start as a relay team with friends or collegues and split the four stages between you. One per stage.

The stages are:

Stage 1 – telemark/randonee
From Kjeringi (1314 m) to Damefall (515 m) – ca. 8 km. Mass start downhill telemark/randonee-skiing, before you change/exchange to cross country skiing.

Stage 2 – cross country skiing
From Damefall (515 m) to Kleppa (413 m) – ca. 4 km. Cross country skiing (classic style) before you change/exchange to running shoes.

Stage 3 – running
From Kleppa (413 m) to the childrens school (100 m) – ca. 4 km. Road running downhill before you change/exchange to mountain bike.

Stage 4 – mountain biking
From the school (100 m) to Hanahaug quay (2 m) – ca. 8 km. Mountain biking on roads and through fruit gardens and fields to reach the finish line at the fjord.

Since the start in 1993 Kjeringi Open has grown and now we have around 500 participants every year. The event is a big happening in Leikanger and many of the towns people gather in the finish area to celebrate Kjeringi Open.

In the evening, we celebrate with dinner, music and speeches at Sognefjord hotel. This is a fitting end to a lovely day of mountain-fjord-festival.
